Baby Dropping Ritual

Did you know that a baby dropping ritual is carried out in certain parts of India in the villages of the adjoining states of Karnataka and Maharastra.

A baby is dropped from the top of a temple above 9 meters and the child is caught by people below holding a blanket.

India being a country filled with a million superstitions and an equal number of Gods to match has this tradition for over 500 years.

This happens every first week of December and is done to bring prosperity to the family and good health to the baby, a large crowd gathers every year and it is a big event with dancing and celebration.
