Crying Baby
A crying baby can be tiresome and confusing to parents and all the more when you do not know about baby sign language. When we were in the army, our older son Aden was around two years old (he had not started speaking yet) we had got transferred to another station and we had to move. On the last night after we had loaded the truck we decided to have an early dinner and go to sleep early ....well... that was not going to happen... Aden refused to go to sleep, even though he was exhausted. He was constantly crying, refusing to be left down, so we hung him on a baby sling because our hands got tired after a while, he would doze for a few minutes and if we tried to lay him in the bed, he would wake up screaming and grabbing on to us, what confused us was that he was never a crying baby but an easy going and happy baby. We checked his temperature, it was normal, we stripped him completely and checked if something was poking or hurting him and we gave him a bath thinking he was uncomfortable, but that did not work either, we thought that he may have had indigestion or he was sore in his tummy, he seemed all right, we even took him to the Hospital emergency room nursing and the doctor said he seems to be perfectly in good health. We were in tears and at our wits end with this crying baby so we decided to do what we knew best to do, when we ran out of options, "we prayed". Then we realized that he was quiet when we put him in the baby sling and held him close to our chest and would stop crying. I remembered when I first brought my dog brownie (because he was brown)home, he would howl his heart out when I left him in his box but would be quiet and fall asleep when I held him near my chest, I realized he felt secure and comforted when he could hear my heartbeat and feel my body warmth.

And out of the blue for some freaky reason it suddenly dawned on me that my son was absolutely terrified to fall asleep and in his little baby brain of childish thinking, he thought that we were going to leave him and go away, he was feeling insecure!! because all our stuff was packed except a few of his things like his blankie and teddy etc ....so he was afraid to fall asleep. So the rest of the night we just put him on a baby sling where he could hear our heart beat and took turns in holding him while he slept. This crying baby symptoms was later confirmed by a few other army officers wives too, that their children below the age of five reacted in the same way, whenever they were shifting or moving house I have realized that the baby sling is a very good comforting method for a insecure crying baby, it is also very handy when you are traveling around and are not able to take your baby pram along with you, we used it for Abel our second son too.
